High water levels

Lake Minnetonka near Minneapolis is at the highest water levels ever recorded. The water is over our fixed docks at the YC. So high that there is TOTAL ban on wakes to help minimize shore damage; powerboaters cannot travel faster than hull speed.

The up-side for us sailors that weekend days are magical; light air days that would be like sailing in a washtub are smooth rides over glassy water. At least 2 more weeks of this kind of joy.

I know some people in Texas that would give their left eye for some of your water.

We had that situation on the Finger Lakes here earlier this year. The sailboats were loving life. Hey what's the body on deck? Bodies of your race victims being buried at sea? ;)

Jackdaw,

I assume your boat lives in freshwater. Please let your YC management & boatowners know the dangers of possible fresh water electrocution if having to walk on submerged docks & finger piers. If neighboring boats are hooked up to shorepower, there may be a present danger lurking.

Well pointed out Capt. Ron. Many do not realize when water is over the docks with shore power, that power may be still on during flooding and there is no GFI on that circuit. Knew of two one was a friend who died that way. The question of the marina is the shore power turned off.

Wink,
For sure. I have friends on Travis that are eating their hearts out. They have a big problem that is not going to go away.

25,
That's called effective crew weight management; inducing heel in light airs. Also called 'napping'

Ron&Dave,
The power has been off on the dock for weeks.

Our marina manager has been losing sleep. With the water at deck level, the docks are at big risk if a big blow comes in from the right direction. Even a moderate wind/wave causes problems.

Jack,

I knew you were gonna say the power is off. I really posted my concerns for other readers in your area that may be unaware and/or at private slips.

This sucks for you as, I wonder at the end, how much damage will be to your docks.
