High pressure floor pump

Persons: My co-owner and I bought an old Bombard inflatable with the Aerotec floor, the inflatable floor. The PSI that the floor is supposed be inflated to is about twice that of the tubes (this is a PVC fabric boat), about 9 psi in the floor versus about 4 in the tubes (don't quote me on those, but you get the idea). The problem (if one actually exists) is that I doubt that the old foot pump that we use to inflate the boat is capable of generating enough pressure to get the floor properly inflated so that it will be firm enough. I have used an electric pump before, and have one on board our big boat. I think that it did the trick easily, it got the floor nice and firm. But I never really checked the psi that I can remember. If that was broken or incapacitated though, would the tried and true foot pump do the trick? If not, do we just deal with it later, the boat is obviously still usable? But I was wondering how everyone else gets that floor nice and firm, and what kind of gauge would fit on the fill connector to check the pressure, if any? Probably on the pump instead? Just thought I would throw it out to this ragtag bunch of sailors. It's probably a bit less controversial than the mandatory PFD thread! Take care, Ron Vanderveer and Tom Hrkach Dolphin Dancer

High pressure floor inflation

Ron & Tom Just check out a West Marine catalog. They now make multiple pressure foot pumps just for high pressure floors. Stu

Similar to one that came with our dinghy

This footpump is similar to the one that came with ours, except this one has a pressure gauge. It works fine. One hole is for low pressure inflation (for the tubes), one is for high pressure inflation (for the floor) and one is for deflating. Harry Bethesda, MD Hunter 456 - "Czech Mate" harry@greenspun.com
