We have a 2006 Hunter 46 LE. My question is where does the water exit when the high bilge pump is activated? We have forced it to work, the alarm works fine, the pump is working, but I cannot find where the water exits.

All help is appreciated.

Follow the outlet hose, a proper back-up pump installation should include a dedicated thru-hull outlet for each pump. Have seen some installations done by prior owners where they attempt to T in to a single discharge hose just causing the water to recycle back into the bilge. The use of a backflow stop valve can just compound problems. Please understand that the bilge pump is hardly a safety item. It is more a convenience item to dispose of small incidental amounts of water that collect in the bilge. It is not capable of handling any significant leak. At best a backup pump may just serve to avoid having to mop the cabin sole should the primary pump fail.

In the 38 the high water pump option is typical a 4000 gallon per hour pump with a 2 inch diameter outlet. The discharge point seems to be under the removable section of cockpit floor right next to where the hand bilge pump discharge is.

If it was factory or dealer installed you might check the schematics on the owners manual. I was just looking at the one for the 38 and it shows the wiring and hose runs for the high water pump.

Thanks for the info. The high bilge pump does not show on our drawings so I don't know if it was added by dealer or other. We thought it might be by the manual bilge pump discharge. Now we know.
