Hi. I had the drill out the screw because it was frozen in the hole. The threads are damaged so i need to find a new one. Anyone can advise where to find them or if anybody have them i would be interested to buy it. thanks.

I may have my original equipment bronze (?) main sheet traveller
somewhere. I'll check.

But I'd recommend replacing with a modern Lewmar or similar main
sheet traveller system - much safer and easier to use.

It was the first of many upgrades I bought for my Vega and one of
the best. And not the most expensive.

Thanks. I would like to experience and see if the original is not efficient at all. i haven't sail her yet, bought it last august and still restoring it. One thing i ve noticed upon removing the old traveler was the lack of attachment points. Only 3 tiny through bolts with a bronze backing plate. It may be ok for weekend sailing but probably not bombproof for off shore. My background is Macgregor venture17 and catalina 22 so they were all simple stuff. I may get away with the current traveler set up unless its frustrating.

I concur. Lyric has a track and traveler from Harken. Mine was replaced after a fairly catastrophic failure. On a beam reach and I heard a couple of quick snaps to my right, turned in that direction, heard more snaps and watched the traveler tack separating
from the boat. It stopped with 1 bolt left holding it on. I don't know how but the bronze bolts had severely corroded. Not something you would expect considering all materials were bronze. Anyway, there is an old saying that goes. "Don't fix it if it isn't
broken". ON the other hand it could be about to break. WaltFrom: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com on behalf of John Kinsella John.Kinsella@... [AlbinVega] AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com

Perhaps, it can be tried as a last resort. I am able move the other screw and slide so smooth that it may not match the original though.

I changed my traveler out to a Lewmar just recently because I couldn't work the thumb screws either. I agree with replacement instead of repairing it. I waited a while to do mine because the cost of a Lewmar traveler wasn't within my reach for a while, so I dealt with the old factory unadjustable one. But now that it's done, it's great, and it's one of my better upgrades, as far as sail control goes."Valkyrie" Albin Vega 3123Rudder Club, Jacksonville Florida.

I went with the Lewmar "0". Better than original, and cost effective. "Valkyrie" Albin Vega 3123Rudder Club, Jacksonville Florida.
