Hello All,I recently decided to clean the Hi Seas diesel heater on my 1984 Catalina 30. I hadn't let it warm up enough and a lot of diesel had collected in the burner. I dismantled it and replaced the wick. I then decided to replace the filter in the pressure regulator. After doing this the heater would start up fine and then, after about ten minutes, would burn very weakly and smoke. I tried to adjust the flow as described in the manual with no luck. I then disassembled the regulator entirely and replaced the seals and diaphragm, and cleaned everything including the orifaces. I hung a can of diesel five feet above the regulator to adjust the flow. The manual says that the flow of diesel at setting 3 (high) should be 4 drops per second. After many tries and much adjusting and repeated cleanings of everything, I can only get about 20 drops every 10 seconds on high and about 30 on setting 2. The flow adjuster screw doesn't seem to have much effect and the flow is eratic. Sometimes it will start flowing fairly well and then slow down and I am puzzled by there being more flow on setting 2 than on 3. I have examined the orifaces with a magnifying glass and they apear to be clean. Also, I am now not sure which way the "groove pin" should face. Should the wide end of the grooves be toward the adjuster screw? Does anyone have any suggestions (other than buy a new heater)? Is there any service available for these things? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
