Just have a question about the traveler on my vega. Can I move it to the front of the cockpit? The main sheet gets tangled up in the tiller a lot and it gets a little dangerous when you have a few passenger. I don't know if it would work, but I would like to move it to the edge in front of the cabin entrance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Sheila, I have seen posts to the group in the past year i think about
centre boom sheeting, with a traveler on the coach roof. You could search
for this in the archive. Putting the traveler where you seem to suggest
(across the entrance to the companionway, if I understand you right) would
hinder entry to the companionway when sheeting on the centre, and would
deny you theist useful places to sit when on a wet beat. There is the whole
issue of stresses on the hull/deck join to consider, if you move the
traveller. I would keep it where it is, and fix bags conveniently to the
cockpit sides to tidy the main sheet into.

Don't do it!

The deck in that area is made differently, more "fome" less fiber. Basically is weaker, also the angle of the force.generated by the sail would.change making its spread more uneven.

Thanks Tom,
I will check the archive. I have a friend with a 32 ft Jeanneau and his traveler is in front of the companionway, but probably built that way. Maybe it's not a good idea to change a good thing.
My boat is coming out this week to get the BMW engine that I had rebuilt put back in and self tailing winches installed. The deck is being painted for the first time in her life and some other additions to bring her back. I read the posts from you all and wish I knew how to restore her myself but don't have the skills. I have a very good mechanic and guys at the boatyard to do the painting. I'm going to be there every day and learn her workings. It's hurricane season here in the Caribbean right now, so a good time to have her out of the water.
