Rod? Me again (the guy who doesnt know what kind of boat he has) Now that Ive shown you how my daggerboard goes in. I need to construct a daggerboard for her. The boat is 18 feet long and the daggerboard is dropthrough. How much should my daggerboard roughly weigh? 100 lbs? 200lbs? 300lbs? Im guessing the daggerboard should give me roughly a draft down to about 4'. Any methods of construction you can reccomend? I was thinking about fiberglass-coated concrete. Got any other reccomendations? But like i said before I dont know how much this thing is supposed to weigh. I realize this boat isnt an oday. But since you seem to know a lot about daysailers, I thought ide ask you first. Thanks for all the help! Brandon Any progress on naming my boat yet? still cant find it!

Rod Johnson,

tough question

That is a tough question, the Day Sailer centerboard weighs around 25#, if that helps. Without really knowing what your boat is, I'm unsure where to get the info that you need. Unless you have some way to lift the DB other than by hand, I wouldn't make it too heavy. I'd start by making a board that was just heavy enough to stay down, made from laminated plywood then glassed over. Depth would be about 3' 6" to 4' 6" (including the part in the well) I guess, that seems to be the average for a boat of this size, deeper is better than too shallow, you can always make it shorter later if it is too deep. Kep checking for any markings on the boat to ID the builder or Class, perhaps another picture from the side?

Pictures

Thanks that helps a lot. I think Ill go with your advice because it sounds about right. Ive completely searched this boat inside and out and have found nothing as far as markings or brand names. I took several pictures of the boat today that I can email you, side, top, front, sails. I cant upload these photos though because they're too big. If you have an email address I can send em to you. So if its cool with you, I can send u some pictures through email. my email: brandonthestu41@hotmail.com Thanks again for all the help! ya sure seem to know what your talking about! Brandon
