Mike, Noticed on the HEY MIKE EPP post that you're from Indian Lake. First Mate, crew and I have been looking to move from Rocky Fork to a bigger lake and visited Indian Lake and Lake Monroe in Indiana. Liked Indian Lake but was concerned about its depth, or rather, lack of it. Heard it was only 8 foot deep. What do you sail and how is sailing on the lake? We have a 260 with a 6' board. Thanks and fair winds tom myers s/v ANOVA

Indian Lake ,

I am not Mike EPP , I am another MIke . I think there are now five h23s at Indian lake now, My boat and as far as I know the others are all wing keels, so we draw 27 inches, I do occasionally hit something with rubber, I have a dock friend who has a precision, with a swing keel, it has a stub keel also and he says he does not use his retractable keel, just sails with the stub, it is a shallow lake in places, so you have to watch where u go, I am sure you will get response from others as well, You might want to check out Lake st Marys, but I have heard it is shallow also, , On that note there are areas at Lake Erie where folks with powerboats tear out their lower units, so , I guess it can be a problem whereever u go , good luck Mike B

Lake Monroe

Lake Monroe would be my choice. The lake is huge. It takes all day to sail from one end to the other. It winds around changing course and there are lots of fingers to explore. There are camp grounds, parks, a nice hotel with marina and lots of wilderness. The water is clean and it warms up and is nice to swim in. A 260 would be a great boat to have there. Joe R.

my 2 cents

Sounds like Lake Monroe is your lake. Indian is awful shallow..........7' at best and usually 5' with the occasional stump. It's great for shallow draft boats and lots of entertainment around the developed shoreline. But too shallow for deeper drafts. Looks like you'll be driving a bit to sail though. I like to sail close by to get out on weeknights. Have you considered Brookville Reservoir or even Prairie Creek near Muncie, IN?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike, Joe, Mike .... Thanks for your responses. We like the atmosphere at Indian Lake; some friends of ours always rent a cottage every summer on Orchard Island. But I was afraid it was too shallow; too bad. Mike E., you're right; it's a bit of a drive to Monroe. One of the factors influencing our choice is that we're maybe looking to buy a summer place as well. That eliminates Brookville. We're visiting Monroe next week. It's 2.75 hours; that eliminates the quick evening sail for sure. Decisions, decisions ... thanks for the info. folks. It helps. May spring come soon to us all. tom

Caesar Creek Lake

I also sail Rocky Fork. Docked at Fisherman's Wharf.I've been tying to get the State of Ohio to put a docks at Caesar. They say it's in the planning stage (five years now). The lake is ten minutes from my house, which would allow evening sails during the week. Anybody else want to help speed up the State decision process ? Please call the lake office and the Dept. Natural Resouces. Jack Everitt s/v Respite
