Hey Guys, I have a photo to show you of my hunter 27...1979. I purchased her up at Port Clinton, Ohio (Lake Erie). But I needed to work on her. And driving from South East Ohio up to Lake Erie every time I wanted to work on her was out of the question. So, I took a chance. I decided to buy a 5,800 lb. capacity flat bed trailer. I know the Hunter 27 weighs 7,000 lbs. But I figured every trailer is rated lower than what it can actually carry. Any way, I talked to a bunch of mechanics, tire repair people and even several marina people that do this sort of thing all the time. After I got a pretty good idea that this could be done, I went for it! So, after hauling this puppy at 34-45 miles per hour the hole way home, I now have my yacht in front of my house to work on! I would have never gotten so much done to her if I did not make this move. Also, now I can store her for 15 bucks a month on the off season. Well, let me see if this photo thing works. If it doesn't, I will try to post a link in the next message. Shoot, they want me to shink this photo down so small that you will not even see it by the time I am done! Here, let me give you a link.....The link is posted in the link section of this message. Please go take a look at her. I am very proud of all the work I have done thus far! She was so dirty, I did not think she would ever come clean. But she sure did clean up nice! Just like brand new! Bye the way, this link is to the message board to my web site! It is a very fun place to go if you have some spare time! Check it out!!!!!

Bolts? No no no! Here is how it is done!

Nope! All I do is get a flat bed trailer. Then, I had them lift the boat and the craddle together and set them both on the trailer. The possition it for appropriat tongue wt. Then I got a couple of those heavy duty straps from Sam's club for an amazing 12 bucks each. I hooked them on to the toe rail, through the trailer and back up the other side to the other toe rail. And that's it. The wt. of the boat will not let it budge. Remember, most of the wt. is in the keel down low. And I am taking turns nice and slow. I basically traiered her at 45 miles per hour. Also, it is illegal to toe a hunter 27 due to its width. But I called the high way patrol. They said they don't look for things like boats that are just over the max. Besides, how are they going to measure it? Hahahahaha. Just in case, here is a tip from the Skip....Take a tape measure and cut off the first 2 feet. They should not notice the first portion of the tape missing. If you are so unlucky to be stopped, you could offer them your tape measure! Hahahahahaha...But seriously, I see tons of yachts on the road expecially to and fro marinas to dry docks and they are all most all too wide to trailer legally. But that doesnt seem to stop any one including me! Yeah, no need to bolt it down. If you are going to tip, a couple bolts is not going to stop it any way! Hahahahaha Your Pal, Skipper from Ohio (Eric Stanson)

Thanks Skip...

You were right about the displacement. My boat is listed as 8900lbs. So the trailer idea would probably work. Unfortunately for me, I live in a residential area of the Detroit suburbs on a 120/160 lot... I don't think it would be up to city code (though called a 29.5...it's actually closer to a true 30 foot boat)...I keep the boat at Toledo Beach Marina on the western end of Lake Erie too. It's a 40 minute drive/all highway from my doorstep to the marina. It's a great idea though...

Not so fast Tim

Tim, not so fast...Just a minute. Before you make a desision, listen to this. I too live in town with very small lot and no drive way. I keep my boat parked out front and there is nothing any one can do about it including the police. Every town has a code. But, it is based on 24 hours. They will fist mark the tire. Then toe. Well, all you do is move the trailer a foot or so each time they mark the tire. Then they will eventually leave you alone! Hehehehe. But you can work on your boat this way and then store it in the winter locally where dry dock prices are way cheaper. You will save enough money to pay for the trailer probably the first year!!! Your Pal Skipper from Ohio,,,Eric Stanson P.S. I think I am starting to get to know you guys. Names like John, Tim and Steve ect are starting to stick out in my memory! thankx all for giving me such great advice!

Skipper- I wouldn't be so quick to brag about leaving your trailer on the street and aggrivating the police. I'm sure your neighbors don't appreciate it either. Buck up and go for dry storage.

Tim, they guy that is selling his flat bed trailer just lowered his price to 650. If any one is interested, let me know! You will save tons on storage fees and you can work on your Hunter closer to home! Your Pal, Skipper

Hey Skip...thanks for the advice!

I would love to buy a trailor to move my boat, but, I've still got to say, 1.) I live in a suburb of Detroit (VERY residential), so that is out of the question. 2.) unfortunately, my 2002 Taurus does not have what it takes to haul a 9000 lb. boat around. I think I would have to rent an IH semi to pull my baby around. I still think it is very cool what you did with your h27. I went and visited my old h27 ('82) today and she was happy to see me! I love my 29.5, but sorely miss my old "Passionata". Incidently, I'M IN THE WATER!! The earliest I've ever launched, but, now unfortunately being an unemployed technical account manager, I've had a lot of time to work on the boat and mull over my future. Nice to be wet though. Good luck Skip and take care!! Tim
