I want to replace the clam cleats for the jib sheets with cam cleats. Do the clam cleat screws screw into a backing plate, or do they have nuts and washers? If I take the screws out is the plate or nuts going to fall into the abyss and then I have to cut holes in my headliner? I also want to add a second rope clutch on the starboard side, my 240 had access covers to get to the back side but the 260 doesn't.

Here's what I did.

I believe that the backing plate is affixed underneath. I bought spinlocks and the adapter plate so that I didn't have to make news holes. Took the machine screws out of the existing cam cleats, left them in position, and added the spinlocks with the adapter plate right on top of existing cleats, coated the scews with silicon and put them back in. They tightened right up into the backing plate (I assume) without any problems. This way if I ever have failure of the spinlock mechanism, I can simply remove them and use the old cam cleats until I have a chance to refurbish the spinlocks. Hope this helps.

Screwed in

Hi Ruedi, My 260 (2003) has cam cleats and they are screwed in an aluminum plate imbeded in the fiberglass. I replaced my starboard single rope clutch with a double and it involved moving the cam cleat. I just drilled new holes and tapped them. The new clutch fit the old hole pattern so it did not need any re-drilling. If you are not sure I would recomend slowly backing one of the screws out and pushing down on it hard. If it does not move down it is most likely threaded into a plate. Hope this helps. Denis
