Last year I attempted to haul out the h23 for the first time...this went pretty well until I realized she was sitting about 12 inches shy of the "V" bumper where the winch is attached. To make a long story shorter, I tried to refloat several times and kept missing the mark (probably due to the incline of the ramp). With day light fading I decided to winch the boat the remaining 10-12 inches and to my dismay broke a weld connecting the stem/neck of the trailer to the mounting plate, and bent the entire stem/neck aft towards the stern. The mounting plate is bolted to the frame with 2 heavy u-bolts and is buckled due to the forces exerted. As anyone could imagine this posed several immediate problems at the time...but presently I need to have this part replaced entirely (which is probably my only option), or have this mangled mess of steel reshaped and welded. Now my question: is there a manufacturer that already has this part (the neck where the winch is attached)pre fabricated, or am I going to have to have one custom made ($$$)? As of right now I am fresh out of ideas and stranded at the same marina since the haul out...any help would be much appreciated! Brian h23 kickin' back

try making an extension

We used to have a 26' swing keel boat on a trailer. After nearly drowning the truck several times, we got a 8' length of 3" pipe and put a ball on one end and hitch on the other to make an extension (I'm sure someone sells these but hey, we built the boat and were not going to start buying stuff we could make ;-). Worked very well. We eventually mounted a heavy wheel under the ball end to make it even better. The net of this was that the truck stayed dry, the boat floated on and we never had to winch. Magic. Just had to put the extension on and off at the ramp. YMMV, Jeff

Trailer parts

Brian, you didn't mention what kind of trailer you have, but if you find a local distributer of that brand, they can sell you any of the parts that bolt on. I built an EZ-Loader trailer for my 20 footer last year, before selling it. Mangled parts of the body of the trailer, you will need a good auto body repair shop to straighten out any box beams. Any way you go I also recommend getting or making the extension for the hitch. Brigg
