It's really very easy, ordered all the hardware cheap defender.com I think? Screen holders found at Lowes - cheap. Plexiglass at Lowes and you can visit a local lumber yard for the Azec Decking - cobre is the color. I have a router table, small table saw, used stainless can get them at Lowes too. Just study the pictures. I did round the back edge of the doors to ensure they would close easily, they fit right inside the hatch board slot. Just be sure to measure twice and cut once and try the fit. The Oak screens are also from lowes and I used tongue oil on 'em. Thanks. I am satisfied with them I hate hatch boards was having to remove 4 fairly heavy boards, sometimes they jam, and with the doors I just lean over and turn the door latches and open the doors.

If it works for you Bill, that's all that really matters. Good on ya man, sliding hatch boards ARE a pain..

Bill,
Your doors look good and look like they fit your requirement.
Wood bleach will take care of most of the stains and oxidation in gelcoat. Ace Hardware sells a tub of dry crystals that mix with warm water and the active ingredient is oxalic acid. Sherwin Williams also sells it.
The tub is 12 oz and goes a long way.

Bill ... Before you totally finish why don't you just go ahead and make the doors full length. But keep the track clear so you can still keep your lower hatch board in place when out sailing in rougher weather.
On my h356 , yes I know it's a larger boat but no matter. My custom doors are made of welded aluminum "painted" with tinted lexan inserts ,hinges that allow for the doors to just lift up and then stored below. The doors are mounted so that the hatch boards still can be dropped in place behind the doors while they are still in place if needs.
I have been admiring your work so far and I have been impressed so far with your work.
I am jealous though , I wish I had a toy barn large enough to put my boat in while I played with it doing improvement projects during the off days.

First attempt, the doors hit the housing for the swing ballast, second attempt was even more futile! This is what I call "low budget sailing" every dollar counts.

You should see how much difference a power washer makes! I power washed the entire inside of my boat. Needs it again.
Bill

I was going to say the same thing. I've purchased quite a few old boats over the years.... and one thing I like to do with a new-2-me boat is go inside with a pressure washer in one hand and a shop vac in the other (safety glasses and ear muffs too) and just have at it. In 15 minutes you will have a clean interior. Then let her dry out and repaint. Make sure you ask the guy at the paint counter to add the anti-mildew chemicals to the paint (bathroom paint).
