I'm relatively new to sailing (been retired for six years), I understand the Luff and Foot of the sail but what does the I, J, P and E of the sail represent, I imagine one is Luff and one is Foot, help for a dumb guy is appreciated, thanks.

rig dimensions

I J P and E measurements are only loosely tied to the actual foot, luff, and leach measurements. See the following link ... http://www.pyacht.net/online-store/scstore/rig_dimensions.htm I = Height of headstay termination above the sheer line J = Distance between the headstay termination at the deck and the front of the mast at the sheer line. P = Distance between black bands on the mast, or the maximum luff length of the main. E = Distance between black bands on the boom, or the maximum foot length of the main PY & EY are similar to P & E, but indicate mizzen dimensions
