The Raymarine ST 1000 tiller pilot works well and the brackets needed would have been astronomical not to mention the prices.. So here is what I CAME UP WITH. Tell me what you think.Here are pixs of this project. This represents three tries to get it right. First one was not strong enough to handle the tork of the ST 1000 Raymarine pilot. Second try was part of the final one but had to double up on the plate that bolts up to the 222 lifeline rail. This stiff end everything up and is perfect.Problem for the installation is the distance from the tiller to the combing. These 222 must have a wide cockpit. Then there was the curved tiller. As you know the standard tiller is a straight one.After you buy the pilot you then see what it takes to adapt it to your boat. Thats where they really soak you is for all the accessory brackets a extensions they offer. For instance the base piece for the rear end of the pilot to set into was $65.00 the extension piece was $60.00 and etc. When all said and done I felt that with our large cockpit I 'd try something different.Out of the box my new ST 1000 worked just once and then went spastic. Couldn't hold the course, the went berzerk and did a 180 degrees. Hee he- what a ride under power. Sent it back to Raymarine and 10 days later it now works just fine.The little cleat holds the tiller when docked or when ever. Also I keep a tether tied to the pilot and on to the cleat just in case it decides to jump off the boat.E-mail me. And I can send more pixs, in case you would like to build one too.
