Had a storm here.Dont think I got hit by lightning directly cause the top of the mast is still there. But I lost my satellite TV receiver(120ac),I lost my power supply fot my LCD TV (120ac to 12v),I lost both Cell phone chargers(12v),I lost my stereo head unit(12v),My line 2 AC meter is pegged but I checked the voltage at the back of the panel and it says 120v ac so it isnt the voltage coming in on line 2 plus I swapped the physical lines to the boat. It looks like my batterries are running down even though the charger has a green light and a yellow light on it.Can you tell me how to verify if it is the batterries or the charger?

Disconnect them

Paul, disconnect the batteries, or shut off the charger, and keep an eye on them that way.

Close Counts

You remember the old joke about close counts in handgernads (sp) and horseshoes. Will it is the same for lightening. Probably all your boat instruments are fried to. Call your insurance agent and be prepared for a major electronic changeout.

you probuably took a hit

Time to call the insurance people, sounds like you suffered damage. Check everything. I've been hit 3 times in 25 years.

You guys were right

The only systems that survived were the A/C and the Refrigeration. All my St60 stuff is dead. The engine seems fine.Anybody know where I can find some ST60 heads for Depth,Speed and Wind cheap. How about all those damaged boats from the hurricanes?I hate to profit but if the hulls were damaged, then the instruments might have made it.

Paul, have your rigging checked also

I know of one boat that dropped it's mast a month after being hit. They found that the forestay had just about burnt through up near the mast and went un-noticed until it dropped. Jim S/V Java

I am

I am moving the boat next month so I have to take down the mast anyway. It is a good time to check it.I noticed my mast light doesnt work so I will check that and change the bulb anyway.

I am

If you are moving your boat and the heastay IS fried, you may not make your destination. I suggest you set a couple of halyards to the forward deck cleet in case the stay lets go.
