Oday 25 Tall Rig Fin Keel Chesapeake - Middle River, Md
I'm starting winter chores on my new (to me) 77 ODay 25. For some reason the previous owners installed a holding tank but never cut in a thru deck fitting for pump out. Apparently they brought the pump out hose through the forward hatch and hand held the discharge hose from the tank while pumping out. Needless to say, I want to extend the hose and cut in a new thru deck waste fitting. I can go either to port or starboard as the tank is amidships under the Vberth. Any preferences? Next this is my first attempt at cutting the deck. I assume that I go through the deck and ceiling liner with a 2" hole saw. Then for the mounting screws, I drill through the deck and liner then come back through the liner with a larger bit in order to get the bolts to snug up to the underside of the deck rather than the liner? Sorry to be so basic but I've never done this before. What kind of caulk should I use? Thanks for any advice.

Question asked, "What kind of caulk should I use? Thanks for any advice."

The archives have several good discussions of various caulking issues. Look under comments by moderator, "Main Sail", rebuilders Keith on his 26 and others on 25.

All those discussions are good. Learn how to find them, that is an important skill.

The great caulk debate, reminscent of religion, or politics!
To keep your research short, if it were me, and you were only doing a single project like that, i would buy a small hand squeeze tube of "life seal" found for best price at http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|10918|12626|311448&id=14781

why life seal? It will work, if done properly, and it flows out of the tube well (important if you are hand squeezing), sets up well, and cleans up well. it can be used on plastic, and has good adhesion. It comes off reasonably well.

AS WITH ANY PRODUCT, THE WAY YOU USE IT (IN THIS CASE SURFACE PREP AND SHAPING) IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN WHAT (Particular subtype)YOU USE!

BTW I feel that the search engine for this website does not often result in what i want. I am not sure why, but it is true that there are some great threads, if you come up empty, i will try to locate the ones that i found that were helpful.

ps, the picture has nothing to do with sealent....just daydreaming! I miss my kids!
