Help with the Main

I have lazy jacks on my 1986 HUNTER31. Quite frankly raising the main is such an ordeal. The head of the sail always gets caught in the lazy jacks as they come into the mast. It's always up, then down alittle and then up again. Just once I would like to raise her non stop without a hitch. I'm keeping her into the wind as well. Should I move the lazy jacks all the way forward to where the boom meets the mast and then raise her. I know I'm missing the obvious.

Lazy Jacks

I retained the topping lift and have taken my lazy jacks VERTICALLY to it.The Jacks are attached to the sail coat 18" in front of each batten end.Sail goes up and down without catching.Suggest you look in the archives.Regards,

Lazy Jacks

Had the identical problem yesterday on our '87 H31. I installed the Shaeffer system so I wouldn't have to modify the sail cover. Next time I'll bring them forward and secure them to the hooks at the foward end of the boom and leave them there until I'm ready to lower the main.

Think about a Dutchman!

Alan:I've heard toooo many people bitch about lazy jacks. This is exactly why we went with the Dutchman system. The other advantage other than the fact that the sail does not go all over the deck. The sail is stacked on the boom when you drop it. Just a little tidding up and you are ready for sail ties and a cover.
