I purchased this h40 almost 2 years ago and ive been working on it. finally ready to launch June 1.

Its kinda unclear to me what to do. I did not transfer ownership to my name yet. I have 2 different bills of sale, one official state bill of sale, and one generic bill of sale. I do not have the official coast guard version for some reason (i think they told me it wasnt necessary). they are both notarized.

The vessel was previously documented. It had a name and hailing port. I dont know what to do next. im confused. i see all kinds of forms on the website i could fill out and pay fees, but which ones do i need? the documentation is expired, and i think it maintains its previous cg number, but i guess i gotta renew it. im lost.

Im thinking that i send the bills of sale along with form CG-1258--"application for initial issue, exchange, or replacement of certificate of documentation or redocumentation". but what fees?

also, i just read that form cg-1270 certificate of documentation, "interest of vessel MAY be transferred..." by last owner by signing on back of ducumentation. I do not have the last certificate of documentation, and im sure the old owner doesnt. I do have the original cert of doc from the first owner, but shows no mention of next owner. does the "MAY" mean i may do this instead of the cg-1258? can i do cg-1258 w/ bill of sale and forget cg1270? its so convoluted.

thanks,

Brandon

You got two bills of sale??? If the boat was sold as a documented vessel, you should have the USCG documentation, or, if it was state registered, something saying it was no longer under documentation. Do you intend to USCG document the vessel?

I think you'll have to apply using a CG-1270 and the standard fees, which would probably be $84...returning the vessel to documentation.

i have 2 bills of sale bc i was worried the first generic one was not adequate and spoke to cg and they told me a state bill of sale would work, so i asked owner for one. dont know why i didnt get a cg bos, i found a blank one with my paperwork. i will never get ahold of this guy. he works internationally and acted like i was a pain in his a$$. hope im not screwed.

I'd second what Chuck said... calling the NVDC is a great idea... they're very helpful there. One thing that is probably going to come back to bite you on the backside is the fact that you've waited almost TWO YEARS to get this all done. It should have been done right after the sale.

SD is correct but on the other hand they are not going to come and take you away in handcuffs. They will help as much as possible to resolve it for you. If at some point there looks like no resolution, the worst that will happen is you will have to do a state registration. Chuck
