O'Day Sprite Atlanta
Hello,

Could anyone help me with the year my Sprite was built.

Here is her hull number: 20390 and class number: 2797

I'm also interested in finding the manual for it. I would like it just for documentation.

If anyone could help with this I would be very appreciative.

Check out the photos of my restored Sprite. I didn't post any before pictures because I just cant believe Feather once looked so bad.

If you Google Hull Identification Number (HIN) you get your answer.

The HIN info won't help, the boat is too old.
All O'Days built prior ot the USCG HIN requirement that started 01NOV 1972, had 2 numbers to ID the boat, a Hull# and a Class#.
Hull# refers to the total number of all O'DAYs built and Class# refers to how many of that model (or Class, in this case, SPRITE) unfortunately, there is no exact corelation between either the Hull# or the Class# as to Model Year. Fortunately, estimates can be made if you find another O'Day with a similar Hull# and know when that boat was built.

I had a 1969 Widgeon, hull # 22698, Class# 1791. I would say that based on that and a rough estimate of 2000 boats total built each year at O'DAY (total production of all models), I would guess that your SPRITE was built in late 1968 or more likely early 1969. I'm not sure what month of 1969 my old boat was built...... so, the year of your boat is still a guess. I have an old O'DAY brochure circa 1966 or 1967 and it claims "over 2350" SPRITEs were in use at that time. That would seem to indicate the late 1967 to early 1969 ballpark estimate for the age of your boat.

I doubt that you will find a Manual for your Sprite, and even if you did it won't say much except basic rigging instructions. You could give Rudy at D&R Marine (O'DAY parts central!) a call (508) 644-3001, he might have some kind of Manual for the Sprite..... but I don't think he does. Robert Baker, the designer of the Sprite, is no longer alive... but his children maintain a web site with plans for some of his designs (Baker Boats). The Sprite is there, but under another name, plans are available. I have a copy of the 1966 Widgeon Manual (OK, 6-pages of rigging info, not really a manual), if that might help I can send a copy (I think I could e-mail that).
