Peggie,The holding tank system on our boat had been badly neglected by the previous owners, so one of the first things we did was replace the head with a PHII on your recommendation - which has been great. After replacing all the hoses on the system, and adding a second vent, I have been working on removing the remaining odor from the boat. I sprayed all the fabric in the boat, as well as the entire under-v-berth area where the holding tank is with KO. I flushed the tank per the recommendation in your book and used KO in the tank per the instructions on the bottle. The inside of the boat now is 99% better than when I started. I am still having trouble with the v-berth cushions, which I have not put back in the boat yet. I removed the covers, which responded well to the KO treatment, but the foam is 4" thick and fairly heavy, and I suspect I did not get it wet enough, although I sprayed them on every side, using over half a gallon of KO. The cushions are 7 feet long, and the v-berth is about 5 - 6 feet wide at the widest point. I would need to purchase another gallon at this point to treat them again, and I am torn between spending another $50 if the smell is so deeply imbedded that I am not going to lick it with this method. The foam is not in need of replacement for any reason other than the odor. The cushions have been outside in the sun for the last 4 days. Would you advise giving it another shot with the KO, or taking the plunge and buying new foam? Does KO become totally inneffective if diluted - what if I added a gallon of water to the gallon of KO and soaked the cushions in the tub for a period of time to insure they were saturated then sun dried them? Thanks for your help.
