just got a c-22 and need to know if the boom goes up the mast past the slot where the sail goes in,hey,im new at this,,,,,,where excacticly does the boom sit on the mast? took it out on the bay at the monroe mi. erea,im use to the west coast,the waves are only 2 foot tall and about 3 feet from each other,kinda new at all those litttle anoying waves,oh well,were gona have fun with this boat ,and thats what counts,thanks all

I forget how the Catalina boom is attached to the mast but I know it is attached below where the sail slides in. There should be something the boom slides up and down on. When you raise the sail it will pull the boom up a few inches. You attach a hook'd line (Cunningham) to the cringle (large round open rivet) at the gooseneck and pull down to flatten the sail.

ok,that makes sence ill try that and see how it goes,tryed to sail out of monroe mi. and it was almost impossible to get the main up,course 30-40mph wind didnt help,so maybe today will be a little easyer,thanks for the info

Have a Cat 25. I found that using sheet metal to make stoppers that keep the main sail slugs from dropping out of the entry slot make life easier. Suggest the sheet metal from Home Depot that is used for thresholds at doorways , from carpet to vinyl floor covering make the best raw material for this mod. Good luck. Entropy Eaton's Neck, NY

Here is a link to the Catalina 22 owner's manual. The boom will sit just below the sail feed slot. There is a short line called the down haul which connects to the gooseneck fitting, and holds the boom down when the mainsail is raised.You should buy a sail feed stop from West Marine, or anywhere else, and after you've raised the mainsail the first time, install the stop just above the feed slot. I suggest not using sheet metal or any except the sail feed stop. Otherwise you'll have the mainsail fall out of the mast each time you lower it.
