Sirs, My fiance and I are hoping to become the owners of a 25yr old Cherubini 37 soon. We intend to sail from Florida to the bahamas to marry and then enjoy an extended honeymoon in the general area. There are not many '80's Hunters in the U.K., only the super-light "Legends" which seem to fall apart in a draught! we are therefore hoping that some of you good people could help by making us aware of any "habits" or general behaviour problems that we might expect and therefore plan ahead for involving these boats. We know there are sometimes problems with holding tanks, and have heard dark whispers about hull/deck fastenings. In a boat of this age, are these defects likely to have been addressed by previous owners?, or are they something that can be lived with? Do stern array mountings make them tender at all?, and can a good amount of centralised weight counter-act or add to problems? Thank you all in advance, T&C Halloran.

someone get him a link to the Rainbow Chaser photos of the stern arch. If you could put it on the back of your boat that boat had it. Never heard about the hull/deck joint issue.

The 37c is a great boat!

This model, and the whole Hunter line from this era (the "Cherubini Hunters") are characterized by solid, attractive design, excellent seaworthiness, and very solid hull lay-ups. Their problems are the same as any boat from this era - mostly about water getting where it shouldn't and the resulting rot or damage. Any aluminum holding tanks of this age are suspect. Fresh water and fuel tanks are probably fine. A good survey will probaly pick up most of the issues on a specific boat. Great plan - keep us informed of your progress. David Lady Lillie '77 h27

Here is a working link to the Rainbow Chaser web site. This site contains a wealth of information on the 37C. I have had Fat Tuesday for over three years and love it. Great sailing boat and can really take it. She sails very well on the reefed main and staysail. Great boat.

Good decision
We've owned our boat about five years and still believe the 37c is the most boat for the money you can find, and the positives far outweigh the negatives. A safe comfortable boat, easy to sail, forgiving, comfortable etc... The "negatives" are minor, and almost all relate to aging boats everywhere: the original holding tanks did not last long, but were easy to replace; the hull-deck fastenings are fine, they just need to be tightened every few years; and some parts will fail after 30 years (portlights, or maybe an old stove), but we consider that normal maintenance. Pay attention to the survey report and negotiate the best price. Expect to do some maintenance and replace aging systems as needed. For your purposes and initial sailing area the 37 cutter should be an excellent choice, just watch out for those shallow banks and enjoy! Sanders s/v Good News
