I think I know the answer to my question but I know someone here is absolutely sure...

:)

I took the cover off of my Carry-on unit to attempt adding some R22... but I could not find the charge valve. I assume I have a fixed (closed) system.

Is this where the charge port would be if I had one (see pic).

I'm guessing I need to take it to an AC place.

That is where the factory evacuated the unit and then charged it then crimped it and soldered it closed. That is the high pressure side .. A service port is usually on the low pressure side and that would be the larger line under the cream colored insulation.

Nope

Didn't find any ports on any of the lines. I guess I'll have to take it someplace.

I did find a thread on Cruiser Forum where a guy said he had to take his to an AC guy and he had the guy add a port to his so .. I'm guessing that is my option.

Thanks for the lead...

Look for a Bullet piercing valve. I've see those used to add a service port to refrigeration units without venting the system.

Thanks Allan
I have a Jack-of-all-trades guy who fixes my washer/dryer/fridge etc. and I called him. He said if I can find a can of R22 he can do it for me. I found a can on eBay so I have a plan in play.... I'll post something once it works or doesn't ... if it works, I'll order a few spare cans to keep in reserve.
