Help understanding Electrical system

Hi Everyone,

No rush here, just trying to expand my knowledge. Can someone help me understand the purpose of the gray solenoid in this picture? Just when I thought I was understanding the DC system on my boat I run in to something I don't understand. (2003 Hunter 426)

It is a ignition key or oil pressure activated battery combiner. A cheap way of making one anyway...

It simply parallels the banks when the key is turned on or oil pressure comes up. It is the same as choosing BOTH. Over the years Hunter used key on and oil pressure on/combine and standard auto grade solenoid/relays... These relays are marginally durable for this task so today Hunter has finally moved to a proper voltage sensing relay, namely the Blue Sea ACR....
