Exactly as Andrew asks, which part are you talking about. What model Furlex have you pictured. There are parts schematics galore but we need starting place. For instance, I googled "Furlex furler parts" and got a ton of diagrams from factory and third party suppliers.
Looking at the part below the furler drum. Bought this boat in the late fall. The forestay was fairly slack. I am wondering if anyone know's the make of this part. I guess I should have been more specific. It seems to be some kind of a fancy turnbuckle. There is a roll pin through the threaded eye, that you can see in the slot of the barrel, which I'm assuming is there to prevent the rod from turning out on it's own.
That is a standard type of fitting to attach the ForeStay to the deck.
Here is an image of the Furlex Furler (100). You see the same pin like fittings. You would turn the "threaded eye" to adjust the length of the forestay. When connected the drum slides down and covers most of what you have exposed. When you get the length correct the only thing you worry about is connecting the U bracket to the fitting on your deck. This would also be done with a pin and a cotter pin. This is much stronger than a pin you would screw in our out.
Now the rub: Forestay looseness should be taken up with either back stay or cap shrouds on fractionally rigged boat. The forestay adjustment is to adjust mast rake and thereby helm balance. Just tightening the forestay is not the road to good tuning of the rigging.
