Can anyone please let me know what parts and pieces I will have to but /replace on a 1989 H23 all the winches , the stainless hinges, gauges, and anything else that may or could be missing.

My boat was in storage for three weeks I went today and I noticed my mast was lying on the grouind. My boat has has been stripped from most of the stainless parts and my hatch doors, interior cushions, the stove, and fridge.

I need to find out what types and sizes of the parts I need to replace. They even took my speedo gauge, and stock compass.

Any Help or info on where to find the parts needed. THX

Lee

I will post pics after the police allow me back into the yard, several other boats were stripped and even the motors were taken off some boats.

1. You could ask Hunter. They're in your own state.

2. You could let the insurance company take care of it.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Hunter may have a list of parts, but I kind of doubt it.. and I am inclined to believe that most of the OEM parts for the boat will no longer be directly available; for example, the winches were Maxwell 14's which haven't been made for quite some time now. If you plan on replacing the bits yourself, get some pictures posted and we can try to figure out what is missing and what may work as a replacement.. otherwise, you might be able to find a marine outfitter in your area that can give you a quote on the whole job and just turn it over to them and the insurance company to work out the details.

Cheers,
Brad

Brad,

That the type of info I need. Winches were 14's so I will look for somethiong similar. The police found the boom laying out by the fenced area but the sail was ripped on the fence. I didn't have insurance I don't even have the boat registered in my name yet. But any info is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Lee

In search of my next boat Palm Harbor, FL
Try contacting via personal message to 'carboman' on this forum, he has a H23 also, I believe, and lives in Palm Harbor. I have a H22, and can help any way I can, but being a different boat, I am not sure how much that will be. Sorry for your loss. I know how it feels I had just bought a new o/b, and had it stolen over night between putting it on, and the next day when i was going out to put a lock on it. Fortunately for me ins covered it though.

No insurance? Not so fast.

Do you have a homeowners policy?

In many states, boats 26'11" are automatically added to your homeowners policy. Check.

That may be the good news. The good news always comes with a healthy dose of whoopass.

You purchased a liability like a sailboat, and did not get additional insurance on it? Really?

Insurance is so needed by everyone today.

I am covered under my home owners policy for liability. If I damage a dock, or someone else's boat, it pays for those repairs. I have to cover the repairs to my boat myself.

Holy Moly,
Did they take the Stanchions? Bow pulpit? Keel bolts? Shrouds?
If all that was done to my boat I'd think about starting over. Sounds like they took everything but the iron keel. Including the repair/replacement of the Main it might be something to consider. Is your mast intact. Your boom is on the other side of a fence, is it damaged? The mast alone on the open market would nearly be of equal value as your boat.
Let me openly condemn the perpetrators and may they suffer an ungodly amount of shame and hardship. :cussing::cussing::cussing:

I hope you can piece it together. Certainly a lesson for all of us.

Of all the items that were stolen, taking the sails, stove, fridge, cushions and hatch doors, leads me to believe someone has the same make and model sailboat. If the thief took the time to undo them properly, rather that cut and rip, that would be another clue that it was someone with the same boat looking for parts. Might want to pass that idea along to the police, as well as do a search of sailboats in the area, see who else might own an H23. Maybe put up some flyers with a pic of the boat asking if anyone has seen a boat similar. Maybe offer some reward. You might get lucky.

I'm really sorry this happened to you.

If you want to check to see if any of the items can be found, look on ebay or craigs list to see if any of the stolen items are there. There are alot of dumb crooks who put them on sale there. As for the sails, you can check the sail lofts that sell used sails and if you are close to St. Pete, then check in that area. Not many lofts sell used sails. If you have any used marine parts places, inquire there as well.

It has been my experience over the years that sailors do not steal in general. When my dealership was being vandalized of lines out of the mast, I went to the new walmart being built and told the guard if one more line is stolen as it appeared one of my lines was on one the contractor's trucks, I would call the police and demand a full investigation to include the guard as well. What a surprise, no more stolen line and that guard left in a hurry as I found out later he had a record.

If the trailer still has wheels, I'd take them off and go get the boat in the link. Take $1500 with you and bring home the boat on your tires. Make one boat out of the two. Then put your "old" boat on Crags list for $1000. (Or draig it to the scrap yard and get ?/lb for the lead keel...)
Good luck.

Take Carboman's input and see if you can negotiate down if in good shape. Thank you Caroman for looking out for the fellow sailor. Take care my friend or both of you I should say.

Thanks! I usually look at craigslist once a week for motors, boats etc. and have not seen anyone selling Hunter 23 items. If I see anything I will let you all know. It would be nice to bust them and get the parts back. Could have been me.
