Help! Termites on the boat!

Soon after purchasing my '78 Hunter 27 earlier this year, I noticed a few termite wings and dead termites in a few areas in my boat. I know the dock suffers from termite problems, and always figured that these were swarmers that found their way in through the nicro, but died trying to establish a home. I had heard that Teak is too hard for drywood termites. Today on the boat, I found about 20 alive swarmers that just seemed to appear out of nowhere, and upon further examination, found some droppings, which seem to confirm my worst fears that there are termites aboard! Has this happened to anyone? How does one go about fumigating a sailboat! Or are there other options for control? Is it possible that termites have made their way into the core, and how would one even go about checking the integrity of key structure?

Termites!!

After having been a Realtor here in Northern Va for 12 years I saw termites just about everywhere. George Washington had great problems with them at his beloved Mt. Vernon home. My suggestion is to call your local termite exterminating company. They will have the solution to your problem. David

Tenting

I've had a power boat "tented" for termites. This was in Ft. Lauderdale, where tenting is common on buildings. Perhaps you could drop the mast, & have your exterminator tent & fog it? On the other hand, boats are fairly easy to seal-up, so perhaps you can do so, & set off a few consumer-type (DIY) "foggers". I know this works well for roaches - not certain about termites? Regards, Gord

definately termites

soft little guys, look exactly like the picture. now im not so sure that I am really infested. Maybe i'm just being optimistic though. When i first come on the boat, i dont see any. Its usually only after I open the hatches, etc to air it out that I begin to see the guys. So maybe (hopefully!) they are flying in from the dock. I am going to call Terminex this week tho.
