If anyone at all can help, I have just bought a 1985 Hunter 33 (77_83), which is lacking a main. I am looking for a main, but could use any assistance as to measurements (standard rig). Pictures can be made available (pullenbob@yahoo.com) for anyone willing to assist, if necessary. Much appreciated. Bob

H-33 mainsail

Bob - I have a Hunter 33 from 1980. Last year I replaced the original main which I still have but don't use with a full baton 8 0z. version. Both sails have a high aspect ratio. I also have sail measurements but I am not sure if you have the same boat. Is it a Cherubini? Not sure if the production lasted into 1985. Let me know if it is the same boat. Can email me through owners directory. Henry

Katrina sails?

I think I remember Jim Logan having sails from a H33 that was destroyed in Katrina. You may be able to contact him through the owner directory. I am sure that there are other H33 sails out there that were taken from boats before the storm that were subsequently destroyed. I have an extra mainsail for a H33. As far as the year, check the number on the transom. They weren't make in 1985.

specs

The sail specs given on this site are I=42'6" J=14' P=37'1" E=10'9" for the 77-83 33'. This is a store I have heard good things about, but have not purchased from. They have many used sails. http://www.mastheadsailinggear.com/ They are in St. Petersburg. You likely have good lofts in, or near your area.

Go to Bacons

online and you'll get the theoretical sail plan -- and any used sails they may have that may fit. But I recommend that you take a long piece of line and measure the maximum luff and foot of your particular boat. If you buy a new main from a local sailmaker, he'll measure your boat for you, taking into consideration a number of factors that may need consideration (bimini clearance, backstay/topping list clearance, etc). You;ll also be able to discuss your particular needs with him, like cloth weight and type, batten types, reefing needs, etc. Unless you are really budget stressed, having a new main made for your boat would be my strong preference.
