I just discovered a bit of wobble in my shaft. Sounds dirty, huh? I also do not see any drip coming through the packing. I just had the zincs replaced during the bottom cleaning. Is it safe to proceed under motor to a mechanic, will I screw up something serious or am I overreacting? Help!?

Maybe you should err on the side of safety

Although you're probably overreacting as all shafts wobble a little, if it's dramatic, you should probably hire a mechanic to come to you. You might check your motor mounts to see if that's the cause. Good luck! LaDonna

Cutlass Bearings

It may be that your cutlass bear has gone bad. The boat will have to be pulled out of the water to be replaced. Once the boat is out of the water, grab the shaft by hand and if you can move the shaft back and forth (this really sounds dirty!) the bearing needs to be replaced. I would have it fixed by a pro with the proper tools.
