I hope someone can help me out (and I hope I'm asking in the right place!)

This weekend I bought an O'Day at a thrift store, of all places. The boat is in great shape (after some major refurbishing) BUT I'm in the dark about a few things. Four photos are posted on http://www.savelakemartin.com/sailboat.htm; I hope someone can look at them and answer a couple of questions...

1. Any idea what year this is? There is no plate, VIN number, etc., and I was told by one owner that it was a 1963, and by a previous owner that it was a 1978.

2. Photo #4 shows that some small pieces of hardware are missing; I'd love to know exactly what they are, and the best place to buy replacements.

ANY help I can get will be most appreciated! Thanks!!

It is definitly an O'day daysailor.

It looks like it cleaned up nicely!
I am assuming that it is an early daysailor if it has no HIN.
That doesn't mean it is not a good boat!
I would keep posting until you get a daysailor response.
Post again if no one has answers.. I have a few locals I can contact if no one else replies.

Try Daysailer.org

Don't know much about Daysailers, but I'm sure that is a DS 1 (original version).

You may want to check out www.daysailer.org This is the Web site/forum of the Daysailers Association with some very knowledgeable people in the ways of the Daysailer.
Good luck

HINs required on hull since 1972

Federal law required all boat makers (domestic and foreign who sell in the US) to put the HIN (Hull Id Number) on the stern middle/starboard on all boats made in 1972 or later. If you don't have a HIN permanently imbedded/attached in your hull, it will be older than 1972.

Daysailer Info

I suggest you call Rudy at D & R marine. http://www.drmarine.com/ I believe he was once production Manager for O'Days back in the "Day", and he has a large barn chock full of O'Day parts. He might be a good resource for you to get whatever it is she will need. Good luck, Art.
