Have had a bit of trouble removing masking tape at edge of epoxied areas in past. Is there any better way to keep the epoxy from soaking through the masking tape? ?Should it be coated tape? Any input will help. Thanx.

Release agent?

I suppose you could 'paint' the tape with the mold release agent they use for keeping the hull from sticking to the form. The blue stuff looks more porous than the FineLine tape, too.

Pull early?

You could pull the tape before the epoxy sets. But that assumes just one coat. If you are doing multiple coats, as in barrier coating, you probably do not want to tape it five or six times. I cannot remember having that problem. I barrier coated right up to the bootstripe, five applications. So the tape was on the lower edge of that stripe. I do not recall having any trouble removing it. I used Interlux 2000E and 3M blue tape.

3M fine line tape

Fine Line is a vinyl tape used in the auto refinish industry to get a clean wet or dry edge to paints. It should work fine with epoxy. I've used it with barrier coating (vinylesther)and it should be just what you need. You can get it at auto paint supply stores.

Thank you all. Good suggestions.

I'll try the exacto knife approach. Should be OK.
