My 84 34 O-Day mail sail boom has 3 lines inside the boom all going forward toward the mast. One I’m sure is to keep tension on the mail sail. As for the other two, I have no clue. Can anyone tell me what the other two are used for? I purchased this boat last November and the previous owner had most of the sails about half off and I have no idea how to rig the boat.

the center line is your outhaul. That attaches to the clew of the mainsail and is used to tension the foot of the sail. The other two lines run from the end of the boom to each of the two reef cringles in the leetch of the sail. They are used to reef the sail. The other ends should run to the foot of the boom and out through a lock of some type (usually an are with a cam on it.) On my O'Day I use the left line as the first reef point and the right line as the second reef point. Be very intimate with these lines as you never know when you'll need to reef your mainsail.

one is for outhaul on the main, other two are for reef point #1 other for reef point #2 ocassionally you'll find a fourth for a flatening reef. btw; are you the ken seace that worked for R.F Weston about 25-30 years ago?

OD34 boom lines
My OD34 (Isomat spares) has 4 lines in the boom - I would guess yours to be the same. All go to cam cleats with levers on the gooseneck. One outhaul and 2 reefs as others have stated. The 4th is for the topping lift. The longest part of the topping lift is a light wire cable that is fixed to the masthead and ends with a block about 4 feet short of the end of the boom - it's not adjustable. The adjustable part is attached to the end of the boom, goes up thru the block at the end of the cable, returns back to the boom end, thru the block in the boom end, thru the boom and ends at one of the cam cleats. If the boat has had a rigid vang installed this isn't needed and may have been removed.
