HELP! Norseman problems

I recently purchased all of the parts to replace my forestay. (The existing one is kinked/separated near the masthead and I'm installing a roller furler...) I got 302 7/32" 1x19 wire and Norseman fittings.I figured I'd put the masthead fitting together at home just to save some time at the dock during the forestay install. I followed the Norseman instructions to the letter but became extremely frustrated -- when inserting the cone and re-raveling the wire, I'm finding it impossible to get it to look the way it's supposed to. The outside wire ends are supposed to fit over the cone and meet neatly back near the core wire. For the life of me, it doesn't work. They are instead aiming outwards and, of course, the fitting won't screw down over it.Is there some trick to this that's not described in the little Norseman instruction sheet?

in the pictures. The link below looks just like the Sta-Lok swageless terminal. You are saying that you cannot bend the overlay wires over the cone? Because they are too stiff and/or not malleable?

Yep, it LOOKS simple...

The pictures and the instructions make it look as if the wires will naturally re-lay themselves to look like the picture you showed. The instruction sheet also has pictures of wires that have been re-layed incorrectly -- the orientation of the wire ends are outwards or sideways instead of inwards. That's how mine look and I can't see away around it.Physically bending and forcing each of the wires to the correct orientation may be theoretically possible, but it just doesn't seem like that's what's intended. It would probably weaken the wires.
