i cant seem to find a yard to lift my boat and unstep my mast without taking my first born!! i just got off the phone with snead island boat works (massey yachts recommended it) and she told me it would be between $1500 and $2000!! i explained that i would have it derigged and would wrap the mast myself but she wouldnt budge. my quest is to find a yard that has abililty to unstep the mast and load the boat on a truck, it shouldn't require more than 2 hours of time. mike

Sailors Wharf

You could try Sailors Wharf in St Pete, 727 823 1155 or 800 879 2244. Former Hunter dealer. Don't know if they would be any less.

I just had work done on my o'day 27 at a yard up in Tarpon Springs. I highly suggest Pelican Marine. 727-942-3860 and ask for John.

Rent a crane

We are a self service yacht club, and every spring and every fall for lift out we hire a crane and crew. We then split the cost and it typically costs $100. Anyone that needs lifting in the summer for repairs, calls the company down and it typically is $250 for them to come down to lift one boat. We also have a permanent mast crane we use for free, if that is not available, the crane can lift the mast off too. See if you can find a yard that allows a crane to come in. Phone some crane companies to see what they would charge. Hope this helps, Ralph C350 "WOLFHELM"

For a no frills git-er -done type of place

call N.E. Taylor Boat Works. In Cortez on north end of Sarasota Bay. Just inside Longboat Pass.941-794-2802. I don't have personal experience but they appear like they might be just what your'e looking for. If you happen to use them, please report back.

2 hours !

If you find a lift operator and truck driver that say they can pull the rig, haul the boat, and load it on a trailer in two hours then you should run for the hills, cause your boat probably won't get to it's destination in one piece.

Mike, check with SSMR

which is Steve Smith Mobile Rigging (727) 823-4800 which is located at the Salt Creek Boatworks 727-821-5482. He owns his own crane. It's just down the creek from Sailor's Wharf and he'll work with you on doing your own prep work and price accordingly. I'll bet it's what you're looking for.
