The Contessa is supposed to be a great boat. I believe some have circumnavigated. Maybe it was Tania Albi's boat??? There is a internet site with a sail calculator that compares boats. It gives hull speed capsize ratio etc. You might want to check it out.

If I remember the reviews correctly, the Contessa achieved fame in the Fastnet debacle, has a great reputation and would be an excellent choice. Especially for Hobbits (check out the companionway and headroom). Just kidding, a great boat.
