I know that I can get a bearing from Steve Birch in the U.K.,but I
would like to find one more local to N.C. shaft size is 1 inch, and
outside tube maximum seems to be 1 3/16 inch, however I may be wrong.
The smallest O.D. I've been able to find is 1 1/4 inch, just a bit
too large. Any Ideas?

Check around your various marine suppliers. They should be able to find
one. If all else fails, a good machine shop should be able to take 1/16"
off a 1 1/4 and cut it to length also. Good luck

Regarding the cutlass bearing, The bearing that Steve Birch sells is a nyoil
bearing which is a nylon impregnated with some type of lubricant. It's inside
diameter is 1.003 " and it is thickness is .100 " The outside diameter is
1.206" or very close to it.. It is a press fit in the stern tube. This
bearing can be run without any water lubricant for a short time without any
harm to the bearing or shaft. You may want to check to see if you have a
store in your area named Bearings Inc. Or any bearing supply house in your
area may have something to help you out. They may have something similar.
Also the bearing in the bottom of the rudder cup support that the rudder post
turns in, is the same bearing as the propshaft bearing. I have just replace
both this past year. Wish you luck in your project Walt S.

Hi, If you do a search on the net. Using Polymer bearing as a search there
are multiable sites such as Thordon, Iglide, Thompson Nyliner, I am sure
there may be an outlet or distributor near your location. Hope this helps.
