The Admiral is tired of peeing in a bucket and I need to put a porta potty in my Cat 22.....it would make a great Christmas gift too :). It has 2 chrome handle looking brackets already mounted on the floor in the v berth area that I assume is to mount a PP. I am looking for a small one that is low profile that she can actually sit on it without bending over much. We are only looking for use during the day and an occasional overnighter. Any suggestions?

Go to the NSA site and look at the current issue of The Mainbrace - there is a good article about making a prta potty using a flower pot and these biodegradble bags - you can tie them in a know and toss them in the trash, seflcontained biodegradable port-a-potty.

I think you need to join the class association to read the article, but there is a ton of information on the class site about these boats. Also it is always a good idea to support the class, whether racing, cruising or just messing about boats.

Have you looked into Wag bags? You can get a seat and the gelling feature is pretty nice.

Take a look at the Thetford line. I like the MSD feature because there is no toilet dumping or toting a tank full of the nasty. It is easily plumbed for dockside pumping (free at most docks). I think it may meet your head room requirements. Timo42 used it in his Mac 22 with limited headroom. They also have other portapotties at 13 1/2 inches but the tank is much smaller. I also like the electric flush.

We got sick of the porta potty and went to the double duty/wagbag/bucket system. Much better to deal with.

I did cut up the porta potty so that we could use the seat and cover assembly as the bucket top.

You do have to remove the seat assembly, remove the bucket lid, replace the seat assembly (about 7 seconds), use the thing (your timing may vary), and then do the reverse (another 7 seconds). The bucket is securely fastened to the boat (removable), and a cinch strap holds the top assembly tight. I made it so that it can do a knock down and not soil us.

Its similar to Mr. Sum's sweet set up.

Eventually I will make nice wood work around it so its pretty but for now it really works.

if you choose a porta-pottie type over the bag type, the thetford 365 is the only one to consider if your looking for ease of use, ease of dumping and longevity. it has features that the others cant match in dependability and durability.
you can get the hand pump model or the battery operated model. I would recommend the battery operated model because its a push button pump with great pressure to completely wet the bowl with water and the AA batteries will last about two years if they dont corrode first due to the marine atmosphere....

I second the wag bag approach. We got the Luggable Loo from Cabelas, which is a 5 gallon bucket with a built in potty seat/cover. Works great.

IMO Wag Bags are a bit better at odor control than the Double Doodie bags from Cabelas, but the DD's have a bigger throw-away bag. Either does the job.

Kiss. Keep It Simple Simple. Nothing simpler than a wag bag. Any kitchen garbage bag will do. They sell fold away toilet seats on eBay that tuck away when not needed. Unfold seat, place garbage bag over seat, with puppy pad inside to absorb liquids, and tie shut when done. Deeper bags, can be twisted several 360 turns, then placed over its self again before tieing bag shut. Double bagging with one bag. Place in any dumpster that would also accept a diper. All trash sacks today break down, so you are not making a time capsule for tomorrow's anthropologists. Lol

If you had a dedicated head area, some of us have come up with fancy ways to use and store wag bags. Mine looks like a home toilet. Back tank stores new and used wag bags, rather than water.

Advantage of a wag bag, done correctly, is there is zero clean up. Odors are locked in the bags, and never a issue of dealing with pump outs, or toating a portapotti around to empty it. I added one of these to my RV garage. I never use the tiny toilet in our bedroom. Too crampt.

I removed our marine head and installed a Thetford 550P in its place. It works well for me. Emptying it after a six day cruse was not a problem. Now I do not have to find a pump station. Found it on Amazon for 147.00.

The Luggable Loo looks interesting. Not sure how to secure it though....maybe bungee cords. I found a 3 leg fold up version that may work. At least it could be folded up and stored away when not needed. Need to make sure it woud fit in my area first.

Kito, I promise you that three legged apparatus will get thrown overboard, along with some cursing, and a mad wife to go along with it. It's about as stable as a heroin addict.

Get you one of those cheap 100 dollar pots, as low as possible, because in the forward section on a 22 you're going to be hunched up over it anyway, use a decent sanitizer, and then just throw it away every year or two. I've got one of those bottom end Thetfords that work like a charm, considering what it is, and what you have to do with it.

For a little more head room, I suggest putting it in the cockpit, so you don't have to leave the helm...
