another advantage of Prioirty mail is the "free" shipping boxes. I donot know if you can get these for first class mail.

Shipping containers are expensive if you are trying to minimize costs.

Don't waste money on packaging, it's not going on store shelves.

Mainsail's Butyl Sealing Tape. Simple. Use your name, it's well known.

Sign me up for a roll, I'm getting low.

Alright - how about

Very good point. I though $5.00+ for two pounds sounded like a lot but without corrugated it is not as bad. Just sucks to sell a $10.00 product that costs $5.00 to ship...
Seal-Rite

Sta-Dri Sealant

Butyl-Seal

Off the top of my head.

Two rolls please, oh and don't forget about shipping to us Canucks!

Cheers,

Maine Sail's best butyl bedding compound bed it forget it "follow instructions for the best results!" put it in a ziplock and bubble envelope, make simple mailing labels for the ziplock.

I could do your warehousing/ drop shipping. We all need to make a buck or two!

Can't wait for my order to arrive!

As you have obviously gone for the ultimate product, why not call it that: 'Ultimate Sealant'.

MaineSail,
I'm currently doing this with another product. If you want PM me and I can give you some background on online stores, credit card processing, packaging and shipping.

I also have contact information for some of the sailing magazines to get the product reviewed if you want. I'll warn you though that if this has any kind of success it will take a LOT of your time.

BTW, I like "Yacht Snot -- set it and forget it." People will definitely remember it.

Yacht Snot. I love it.

Back in the early 1970's in AAMRR motorcycle road racing novice amateur novices were allowed to lock critical hardware like oil plugs and brake hardware with adhesive rather than stainless lock wire. We used a 3M adhesive intended for holding emblems. It's unfortunate yellow color caused it to be referred to as "Gorilla Snot".

Sam, the stuff we used to use to seal large-diameter (.5-1.5") coaxial cable junctions hung from utility poles was referred to as "monkey sh!t" because of how sticky and nasty it was.

How about "The Universal Sticky-Gooey Stuff that you've been looking for since the EPA banned the last stuff that really worked"... Every one will want some, even if they don't need it. Just knowing it replaced something the government took away is a great selling point!

Make sure that....

you use your name, Maine Sail, in the product name as you do have name recognition in many forums. I also think a simple name is better ( Butyl Tape ) . You could try Maine Sail's Best Butyl Tape. When asked for the good or better, just respond that the Maine Sail name is nottin' but the best.
As far as shipping cost, it is what is it. It's the handling fee that would get to me. That should be in the cost of the product. Until you have a online store, get a PayPal account. It makes it easy to spend money:D

Oh, Put me down for 2-3 rolls. As said before, ziplock baggies in a padded envelope or priority mail box would be fine.

Yesterday I had to replace a deck hatch (broken lense) and was prepared for a battle. To my great pleasure I discovered the builder (PDQ Yachts) had bedded it with butyl 14 years ago, and so it took only a few minutes with a kitchen knife and drywall knife to pry it up. Absolutly no evidence of leaks. It seemed to be the type of gray tape that Mainsail is suggesting, and I bedded the replacment with matching tape that I keep on the boat (great shelf life). 10 minute job. Great stuff, in the right application.

I like names that say what a thing is. Butyl tape. This also makes it clear why it is different and that it is not another formular of adhesive caulk.
