Hi All,
I have been working now for a while trying to find just the right butyl tape supplier to supply me with butyl tape suitable for bedding deck hardware. I want to pass it to other boaters as there is no current supplier of the right butyl to the marine industry.
Any proceeds, which will be minimal as I am not marking it up much at all, will be put towards my web site to keep it FREE and fund my experiments and how-to articles. I've spent a good deal of money out of my own pocket to fund it thus far and my wife says it should be self supporting by now..
I tend to agree.
I spent many months trying to find the best butyl tape I could find at the fairest price, I know how cheap we can be. While I did find some less expensive tapes they were not the consistency or quality I was looking for. Many of butyl tapes are now are manufactured in a more "vibration resistant formulation" for high rise buildings that can induce cyclic vibrations between glass and window frame etc. and this, in my experience, makes them a little to stiff for marine use. In that use they don't want it to squish out when installed and in a marine application it needs to squish out so the parts mate together as tight as possible but a thin film of butyl remains between deck and fitting but not too much to allow movement. The good old stuff used in the 70's and 80's was a little tough to source but after many samples I found the stuff I had been using.
So at this point I am trying to come up with a name and figured I'd ask you guys to help! What does the winner get? Chest pumping rights..

Here's what I have thus far, don't laugh, and please add to it. Sititng down with my graphic artist later this week so will need a name by then.
