Monday night I went to bed with my garage door open. During the night a thief stole a bunch of stuff out of my garage and car. The most expensive item stolen was an asymetrical spinnaker for my Beneteau 361. If anyone sees this sail for sale I sure would like to know about it (and so would the police). It is made by Doyle (APC cut)-- 41'6" leech, 46'6" luff, and 23' 6" foot. Color is yellow and lime green.
I hate thieves.

The person who stole that will probably sell it.

There can't be very many boats in your sailing area big enough to fly a sail that size. So find the buyer and then catch a thief.

Sorry to hear it.

I am always wary about leaving my garage doors open for this very reason. We live in a fairly isolated area, but my garage is pretty close to the street making a such a theft easy to accomplish. I won't even leave a mower or my snow blower out front for five minutes.

I learned my lesson after having my 1984 Johnson sailmaster 9.9 (one of the most popular sailboat auxialaries of all time) stolen off the back of my boat while it was on the mooring over 500 feet from the nearest shore. Locks? I had bought them, but not taken a moment to install any yet...after all...what can happen that far from shore?

That reminds me...I really should increase the security on my new boat. No outboard anymore luckily. I wonder if there is some way I can put a lock on my main? Oh well, somebody would probably just cut the sail and get it repaired.

Good luck catching the thief. Besides ebay I'd notify all the big used sail online sites. I'd also look contact everyone I could in the 361 owner's registry and warn them that they might be contacted to purchase the sail. I'd give that list to the police as well if there are any local owners. I doubt that anyone who owns a 361 would steal a sail if they can afford that boat, but you never know.

Good luck getting it back.

I wouldn't hold my breath...

while waiting to get your sail back. I dought the theif knew what he was stealing at the time. I assume you had it in a bag and they just snatched it because it was handy and light. Keep your eye on the Tenn. River for modified motor boats. Good Luck, Lime Green will help.

Also check with your local flea markets

Many second hand shops will sell anything. I would even concider placing a ad and give a reward for it. Many junk dealers don't know what a sail bag is never mind what one looks like. Get a picture and pass it out to all the pawn shops and junk dealers. Sometimes just posting a reward (no questions asked) will do the trick. Good luck.

Keep it up,

Consignment Shops

Contact some sail consignment shops, too like Bacon's. I also doubt they were smart enough to know what they stole, but you never know. Good luck. I detest thieves and liars. That's an expensive replacement, hopefully your homeowner's or car insurance will cover most of it?
