Help,Installing a Yamaha 9.9/4 stroke in a 27catal

I have just ordered a new 9.9 Yamaha to replace my 9.8 Merc.I am told that it is a far superior outboard- high thrust and all that good stuff but it will not fit in the motor well in the up position. Can anyone with a simular situation suggest what works without starting to redesign the engine well?
