I posed these questions before with only one response. Do I call Rudy?Question: 1After 1000 hours of work I am almost ready to launch. I have a Oday 25 CB. The boat is launched each time from my trailer. With the rudder on, ther is about 6" of ground clearance. Can I launch with the rudder on or do I have to put it on after it is in the water? It looks like a chore to do afloat as it must be turned sideways to fit the pins in.Question 2On my old boat, I split the back stay with a yoke over the rudder to center the mast pull. It helped the boat sail up wind equally both directions. I'm thinking of doing that on the 25, but if it makes no real difference, why bother. Also, a trangle of cable over the rudder may make it more difficult to install the rudder afloat, if thats required from question 1 above. Also, it may complicate my ability to add a bimini latter? So, is it worth splitting the backstay to get a dead center pull on the mast, considering these other factors?Ric

I launch mine with rudder on but I have a tiller damper to control the tiller. Make sure your ramp continues to get deeper. Afew of the ramps here are pretty steep then flatten out about 4 to 5 feet deep. The point is not to jamb your rudder into the bottom while backing down the ramp. I would sail it this year before you mess with the backstay. I would see how the boat performs the way it is setup now. The 272's have the offset back stay also.r.w.landau

Ric - One of the fun games on this board is to see if you can get your reply in before RW's - cause he's pretty much going to be right.As the man says, I wouldn't mess with the backstay until you've sailed the boat a while. I made the mistake of making several changes as soon as I bought my boat and now I need to redo several things. Keep in mind the reason for a split backstay is typically to control rig tension, not to center the tensions on the mast.As to the rudder - well, it depends on your ramp. If in doubt launch on a high tide and you will probably have enough ramp to be safe.Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Conservitive advise is a big help. I'll take it.I'll launch with out the rudder and measure the depth as we go. The I can see if it will clear, in and out. Thanks again guys.Ric
