Help Identifying Portlight Manufacturer

I recently purchased a 1985 Hunter 34 and the previous owner was in the process or replacing all of the portlights. Unfortunately, he stopped 3 short of completing the task. I'd like to finish the job using the same type of portlight but can't seem to locate the manufacturer. I've asked the previous owner where the replacements were sourced but haven't received and answer. Hoping someone on the forums might recognize them and be able to point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Mike, the forum store on this site was set up by hunter to do the retail sales along time back and they should have the information and can help you with that. They are competitive and stand behind their service. In fact there is one gentlemen on staff who also worked at Hunter on the line and also in warranty then in retail sales. He became part of the forum store staff.

They look like the ones from New Found Metals. Welcome to the group.
I agree. They look like New Found Metals.

The originals are likely the Gray Enterprises portlites offered on this site. They are still made in the original sizes, so are the easiest to install, but the P.O. already started with the NFM, so probably a moot point. The NFM portlites are a good product, but are not an exact size match and require some adjustments to the cutouts. NFM offers teak trim rings for the interior side to accommodate differences in cabintop thickness.

Your photo of the interior side is a bit blurry, so it's hard to tell for sure, but it looks like there may be something funky going on along the lower edge of the portlite. What are we seeing there?

That was quick! Thanks for the welcome and info on the portlights. Those are definitely the ones installed by the P.O. From the New Found Metals website it looks like I have the 5x12 model (2 latches) vs the 7x15 model (4 latches). Not sure if all the portlights originally equipped on the Hunter 34 were of identical size but the 3 remaining that I need to replace are the ones that open to the cockpit. I'll have to take some measurements and verify, I already have one of the remaining 3 removed.

Dalliance,

The picture does have some weird shadows going on but what you are seeing on the bottom edge is the metal trim and bracket for the latch. They are mounted directly to the cabin without any type of extra trim.

Thanks again everyone!

Welcome aboard, Mike.
Bummer is that the three ports that open to the cockpit originally are 4X14 Gray ports. I don't think NFM makes one that size, so you are faced with either going back with new Gray ports (this site has them at a fine price) or doing some serious work to get 5x 12 into those locations. As are the other ports

I really like the look and quality of the NFM portlights so I'm thinking I'll probably go with the 7x15 NFM portlights in the cockpit and simply enlarge the openings. I know they will fit in the two on the sides of the companionway but I'm not sure if I'll have the 10.25 inches of height required for the install in the aft cabin. It sure would be nice to get a little more ventilation in that aft cabin. Looks like I need to go take some measurements.

Well I took some measurements and there definitely isn't even close to enough room to get the NFM 7x15 portlights into any of existing portlights locations. Gray ports it is......

Now that I'm going to order, I'm slightly confused by what drain/spigot configuration I should be ordering for the cockpit portlights. I guessing since the angles of the cockpit portlights are fairly vertical I should be ordering the straight spigot?

Thanks

That's a question I would ask the supplier when you order. If it's from this site I bet they would know.

Since the area the port lights are mounted in is relatively vertical I purchased the straight spigot. From what I learned, the angled spigot assists with draining the port if it is mounted in an angled surface.

P.S. You should add the screens... If you purchase the portlights at a show where NFM is exhibiting, they usually offer a good discount on the screens when you purchase the portlight..... -Jon
