Help identifing a part

This is a fuel gauge off of my fuel tank. It is not mechanical in nature and I suspect it works via resistance or capacitance. The missing tap is round so orientation is correct when installing on the tank.

Before I remove the broken lens, I was hoping that someone would recognize this gauge and can tell me when I might fine one. If I can not find a replacement, my options are to remove the entire sender and install a new sender. But this may be a problem as I think senders are not standard diameters or screw hole location standard either. Which means either replacing the tank or modifying the tank.

Any help would be great. I am sure if I remove the lens I will be able to see the manufacture, but then that makes the gauge vulnerable to the elements. On top of that, the one tab is missing due to damage with taking the gauge off the tank (my bad).

I agree with you that they do not appear to be standard. When I removed my manual gauge there were 5 screws that held it in place. I just purchased a sender from Wema USA and it screwed right into place.

You may want to contact them about yours and see if they have something that would work.

Go to your local propane store that sells tanks , sure looks the same as the one I replaced in my permanent mount LP tank on my motorhome ...Is one tab missing?

Lost, I never thought to look at that store. Yes, a tab is missing. I inadvertently broke it off when I bent the unit. Silly me.

Why would a propane shop carry supplies for a diesel/gas tank sender.

Good question, NYSail, but I found the gauges on some propane sites. They are not the fractional (F-3/4-1/2-1/4-E) but of the percent type. I will visit a few RV centers today and see what they have. Oh, and I believe these are for liquid propane where the sender's arm floats on the medium.

The picture you posted is of a direct read fuel gauge as opposed to a sender. With a sender you would have wires attached to the top of the tank that feed a remote gauge and no gauge at the tank. What you have is very common and works off a a mechanical float in the tank that turns a magnet as the fuel level in the tank changes...then the gauge responds to the position of the magnet. You can find a replacement at West Marine, Part number 8979114 for 28.99 plus tax and freight. The mounting screw tabs should fit without problems.
