A really big one. Just not the kind you perverts were thinking.:kick:

I guess it's called a "slotted oval head wood screw". These go up through my Albin Vega's interior grab rails, through the cabin roof, and into the exterior grab rails. It's about 4.25" long, made of either brass or bronze (I don't know how to tell the difference) although stainless would be fine. I also don't care if it's Philips (or any other head) rather than slotted. I just need to keep my grab rails on!

McMaster-Carr doesn't have them and WM doesn't have them. The longest I can find is 3". Anyone have a top-secret source for ginormous fasteners like this??

Anyone will need specs on what you are looking for to say they have what you need.

Perhaps it is time to rethink this fastener. I would not want to grab the rail to stop a fall and have that threaded screw let loose. Consider a through bolt same diameter through the two rails and deck. The bolt and nut heads are recessed and covered with a bung hole. More secure. If it breaks it is because the wooden grab rail failed not a wood screw thread yank out.

You can drill the through hole by hand but better to use a drill press.

Try Hamilton Marine, hamiltonmarine.com

They should be bronze or SS, not brass.

I've discovered this week that both Defender and Jamestown Distributors have $25 minimum orders. If you only need one screw, keep that in mind.
