hello, i am wondering about rudder sizes. i have a 1973 oday 27' sailboat, it needs a rudder and a tiller. i found them on line for a reasonable price, but its for a 272 oday will that rudder fit my boat? what will fit? please help. erin_doodle@hotmail.com (thank you erin)

The O'Day 27 has a rudder post that passes through the bottom of the cockpit, near the stern. The 272 model hangs off the stern with gungeons and pintles. Check with D&R Marine (see link on this web site). I don't remember their web site listing any rudder parts, but Rudy may be able to give you more guidance. If you don't find a replacement, I hope to haul my boat in about a month and can draw you the outline (and take pictures)so you can have one made. Perhaps there is a northern owner who has their boats out of the water now and can do this for you. You can find my email in the Owner's listing on this web site. Good luck, Jim Cook

I've heard the OEM supplier of rudders for some O'day models was Foss Foam of Florida (www.newrudders.com). You might check with them and see if they can provide a rudder for your 27. Good Luck

I lost my rudder over the summer and got a new set up from Rudy at d& r marine cst was just over 1000.00 with shipping . Fit like a glove and sails great. Just one thing call rudy at d&r marine , he responds a lot faster
