On my recently purchased 1989 C22 I noticed a small amount of water beginning to accumulate in lower area of the hull. Where could it be getting in? Rainwater, deck leak from a fitting or stanchion,or a thru hull? Since I keep the boat on a mooring I began to check for water often and one day with a flashlight I looked at galley/sink thru hull and found a slightly wet area at the base of the plastic thru hull where it connects to a valve for draining water from the sink. I decided to remove the boat from the water and make the proper repair. As I removed the hose clamp and the sink hose the thru hull stem broke in my hand.I can only surmise that there was a crack in the stem from?? If I had still been in the water this could have been a BIG problem. I have no bilge pump or haul out facility and my trailer is some distance away. Its a lesson learned. Check your boat and don't discount a little water...Diego

Carry wooden cones

It is a good practive to carry the wooden "cones" that are made to insert into a failed thru-hull for just this type of problem.

yup

recently bought some thru hull plugs from them but as I recall, they came in a package of various sizes. Determine the diameter of each thru hull and tie a matching size plug to each thru hull with line light enough to break by hand. Then the plug will be right there when you need it.
