My brass through-hull fitting for the galley sink has developed a leak. How do I remove the fitting as there is no access via the cupboard below the sink? This cupboard has a bottom in it that is a few inches above the hull itself. The water drains directly into the bilge and fills the bilges in a week. Thanks, Robert

Could you explain the problem again. The two 25's that I have owned (a "78" and A "79" both centerboard models) have a thru hull directly under the sink. The ice boxes drained into the bilge until I installed a "tee" fitting and valves to drain into the sink thruhull. r.w.landau

My O'Day 25 centerboard was created in 1976. When I bought the boat the ice box did drain with a "T" fitting into the sink drain. The through-hull fitting has a shut off at the floor of the cupboard.

Can you pull the boat for about 2 hours?
Robert, That valve attaches(threads onto) the thru hull. If you pull the boat, thead off the valve. Then there is a nut on the inside and the thru hull flange on the outside. If you look on the inside of the thru hull flange from the outside, you will see two nubs. Those nubs cna be used for the installation and removal of the fitting. If you use a large enough screw driver into the exterior of the fitting so as to engage the nubs, then use a wrench on the inside to remove the nut. The fitting will probably be adheared quit well so once the nut is off, tap it with a hammer, and or at the same time rotate the screwdriver trying to break the sealant bond. Once off, clean up the exterior of the hull with sandpaper to remove ALL old sealant. Apply a 1/4" to 3/8" continuious bead of 3M 4000, 4200 or 5200 to the portion of the flange that will engage the hull.Insert the fitting into the hole in the hull and engage the screw driver as done when removing. Hole the screw driver from turning ( you don't want to turn the fitting because it will affect the sealant.) install the nut on the inside and tighten. Install a new valve ( the bronze 1/4 turn lever style) and new pipe to tubing barb fitting allow about two hours set time and you are ready to launch and go again. That sound like a short time but these products use moisture for setting. I am sorry that I do not remember the size of thru hull. Mine was always on the trailer when done.

Is that the same problem you had before fixing the leak in your boat? My boat is a '76 O'day 25. Appreciated your detailed fix-it instructions as I'll no doubt have to do the same thing.
