I have connected my garmin gps 12XL to my navman 3100 repeater. The navman does not detect the nmea sentences from the GPS, it only displays "NMEA NO". I have the garmin interface set to "none/nmea". It says it is outputing "nmea 183 v2 4800 baud". I spoke to navman before buying the repeater and they said it would interface with the garmin. I have a sneaking suspicion that the navamn 3100 requires 9600 baud nmea input instead of 4800 baud rate. Anyone got any ideas??? Ted

NEMA Output

Ted, Try the NEMA/NEMA setting on your Gammin. As I remember the 12XL can "Talk" and "Listen" on the data bus. The setting before the "/" is the output format from to Garmin and the one after it is the input to the Garmin. Nothing that the Garmin will put on the data buss will damage another unit, it will just be unintelligable to the receiveing unit,

Joe, I tried the nmea/nmea settiing.

But it didnt work. According to the garmin book it says to only output data and not input data, set it to none/nmea. All indications from the GPS is that it is indeed outputing the sentences. I guess I'll have to call navman support on monday. After spending $200 on the repeater I hope it turns out that I just doing something wrong. Ted

Ted, you'll get it to work

I've been battling NEMA interfaces since the '80s. (early) Most of the time, it's just trial and error. Especially so, between two brands and a laptop. :{
