Help! I have a French built 1998 Center Cockpit. Whenever the power at the marina drops out for a moment, the Ground Fault Interupt systems kicks out. This causes the entire 110vac system to go down, and requires me to reset the system prior once the 110vac power is restored to the marina. This is not to big of a problem if I am at the boat, but it does mean that the battery charging system goes down and when I am not there to reset the system, the batteries do not get charged. This is a real disappointment when I do arrive to find that I have not 12vdc power and a flat battery. Can anyone tell me if this is standard, or do I have a faulty system? At this point I am thinging about direct wiring the charger. Any advice anyone can give would be appreciated. Larry

Replace GFI

Replace the GFI circuit breaker with a non-GFI breaker of the same ampere rating. The issue of safety can be addressed by simply changing any 110 volt AC outlets located in the heads with GFI duplex outlets.

It's a French thing

I previously owned a French built 311 with the same problem. I had to learn the hard way that my fridge promptly ran the battery down after a brief power interruption on a Monday-with me not getting to the boat until Friday. The core of the problem is that European electrical code standards require the manual reset function due to the systemwide nature of their GFI-type system. On US built Beneteau's, the GFIs are internal circuit devices-thus no loss of power to the panel once power is restored from shore power.

Thanks.

Thanks Guys. I will just direct wire the battery charger. I am tired of cleaning rotten food from the refigerator. Good sailing to you both!
